Bullying and Intimidating
Behaviours.
Bullying and
intimidating behaviours are often
centred around power relationships.
They can be prevalent in highly
centralised, autocratic and
hierarchical organisations.
The consequences for the employee
are fear, loss of self-worth,
demotivation, and potential
absenteeism with an ultimate loss of
productivity and added value for the
organisation.
Bullies use intimidating
behaviour as a "power trip", which
ultimately yields only negative
outcomes.
From the employers position
legally, it represents a failure to
take reasonable steps to protect the
health and safety of employees and
can give rise to litigation.
