Benefits of using intranet

Microsoft and the Cranfield School of Management are claiming that most organisations do not realise that management information should not be kept in files, but made generally available to staff. This means that details about products, services, customers, and contact data should all be immediately available at any screen. It is claimed that workforces perform better when they are empowered with access to such details.

Microsoft’s David Bridger says that "agile" companies let employees see everything they need to know to make decisions and give customer service. The new thinking is that knowing what is going on makes a big dent in the millions of hours lost a year due to low morale, because staff who have access to company knowledge feel they are in charge of their own development. Microsoft have taken this a step further too by not having an HR manager but a director of people, profit and loyalty.
