Redundancy - consultation

Consultation is at the heart of any successful redundancy operation and agreed systems for formal consultation should be in place within any organisation, large or small.

Whilst formal communication is essential and often a legal requirement, as in the case of industries operating alongside unions, it is also important to establish the informal networks for ensuring that views are heard and ideas discussed. Creating a climate where there is a free exchange of information is a much wider management task but its application to redundancy is essential.
